Thirty Things I Learned In My Thirties

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of reflection, evaluation, and setting intentions. As I celebrate my 40th birthday, I’ve decided to record thirty things I learned in my thirties as a thank you to everyone who contributed to my growth and learning. Enjoy!

THIRTY THINGS I LEARNED IN MY THIRTIES:

  1. Opportunity determines experience, which shapes perspective, which determines attitude.

  2. Anger is rooted in judgment, judgment is rooted in superiority, and superiority is rooted in insecurity.

  3. It’s hard to stay offended when you’re calling out the good in the one who offended you.

  4. Say honest words with peace and compassion. Clarity is kindness.

  5. If we want to go farther than we’ve been before, we might have to offload some baggage.

  6. You can’t complain and worship at the same time.

  7. Genuinely championing others is a Kingdom success strategy.

  8. Saying yes to God releases His blessing, anointing, and provision.

  9. His restoration is always greater than our devastation

  10. We are fortified by our struggles when we are living out our divine purpose.

  11. Jesus knows what it’s like. All of it.

  12. Vulnerability is a form of generosity.

  13. Partial obedience is disobedience.

  14. Seek accountability and feedback and have the humility to receive it.

  15. Our understanding of our True identity steers our behavior, but our behavior can never change our True identity.

  16. Don’t wait until everything is on fire to buy a fire extinguisher.

  17. Hold tight to the promise, but handle the vision with open hands.

  18. Manage conflict with a heart for understanding.

  19. Delegate wisely and then release control over the details.

  20. Make rest a priority and make space for others to do the same.

  21. Sustainability is a Kingdom principle.

  22. Distractibility is the #1 enemy of success.

  23. Managing expectations is essential for avoiding disappointment and conflict.

  24. It is impossible to know who you are if you don’t know who God is.

  25. Gratitude and disappointment are not mutually exclusive.

  26. God’s ideas are way better than mine.

  27. Comparison is a thief.

  28. Handle your crap. Ignoring it only makes it grow.

  29. Health requires intention.

  30. My character and reputation speak for themselves, for better or for worse.
