To the Follower of Jesus who knows how to hustle:
Your hustle is not wrong. There are voices that would tell you that working hard and pushing yourself past limitations in ways that keep your life full is somehow incorrect in the eyes of Jesus. But listen here, the disciples were the original hustlers, y’all. And Paul? Talk about can’t stop, won’t stop.
The fact is, there are times that call for moving fast and seasons of growth and building that demand a level of intensity that people like you can muster. You were made for this.
Here are four things you know:
1) You know that sometimes obedience looks like full speed ahead in pursuit of your calling, which is the Gospel. You are compelled by the unique way in which God created you to express His love on this earth.
2) You know that what the world would say was you pulling yourself up by your bootstraps was really Jesus pulling you up from the pit. And yeah, you've been hustling ever since. Because you’ve seen His Power and now you've got that light-a-fire, why-are-you-still-thinking-about-it, JUST-GET-GOING-ALREADY drive and you are not sorry.
3) You know how to protect rest and do all the being still and knowing and you recognize that there is nothing worth doing— not even resting if it’s not by the Power and in the Presence of the Holy Spirit.
4) You know your assignment and that you've been strategically placed to be given moment-by-moment instructions on how to love well and express His character to a world that is literally dying for some Good News.
So, don’t ever let anyone tell you that your pursuit of obedience and your relentless commitment to doing the work God has called you to is wrong. Work hard. Rest hard. Pursue Him above all else and you will stay on track. The Holy Spirit is always directing you when you're lost, protecting you when you're at risk, and collecting you when you’ve become frustrated and distracted.
Keep your eyes on Jesus and He’ll lead you on the adventure you were created for.
Now get another cup of coffee and get to it.
