Three truths to help you jump when you're facing God-breathed Adventure

That crisp fall day of solitude was to be spent flitting whichever direction the wind of my whim would blow. I was walking out of my favorite local coffee shop when the floor mat stood out to me like a neon sign. I'd never even noticed it before. Perhaps it shown so significantly in the light through the glass door because of my state of mind. I had taken the day off work and once I got the kiddos out the door for their last day before Thanksgiving break, it was a day for MY stuff. I spent the early morning hours reading and working on this here blog.

The truth is... writing here for you is a leap of faith like few others I've been brave enough to take thus far in my life.

So it was an impetuous moment, standing there staring at my red sneakers. For a few seconds, I was shaken out of my floaty mood and the potential EVERYTHING of this endeavor became very real. I caught a quick mental glimpse of the road ahead. My time spent working in Africa has caused me to temper my romance with adventure, as I know that all adventure is laced with adversity. I hesitate to give way to the emotional revving that occurs in my soul as I sense this fresh appointment. There will be speed bumps I can't anticipate, TKOs I won't see coming, and heartless blows to my self esteem, curtesy of the internet, no doubt.

Why would one choose to walk directly into adversity? Because it offers the opportunity to overcome! Adventure by nature is attractive because of the unknown and potential hazard. What a boring life this would be if it weren't for pushing past obstacles and challenges and defeating anything that stands in the way of success. It's all particularly worth it when the fight is for the sake of a call. What a thrill!

There are those of us who take comfort in predictability, stability and consistency. To these types, everything I've been describing sounds like the opposite of enjoyable and nothing to ever get too close to. "Give me my safe and obstacle-free plan and let me work it." Right? I want to say to you, steady ones,  that the adventures God asks us to pursue, with all their unpredictability, are entirely predictable. The outcome is predetermined and the way is clearly marked. If we can set aside our agendas, we'll find that our plans aren't so great after all. We may not always be comfortable, but we can always be assured.

Here's what helps me jump when I'm staring God-breathed adventure in the face:

  1. The unknown will be provided for. From the broadest circumstances, to the most minute details, God paved the way long before we became privy to the fact that we would be headed this way. We can rest in the fact that He will not let His will go unprovided for. If He can split the sea, He can pay the bills and open the doors.
  2. Success is guaranteed. If we can view a "win" through the lens of God's Glory and His purposes for His Kingdom, we will realize that no matter how things turn out, His success (which is our success) will surely come. As long as we remain obedient and just do the next first thing, we are winning.
  3. It's going to be even better than I think. I dream BIG. But I know that my limited mind can't fathom the places God will take me if I'm faithful. If we can be flexible and open to things not turning out the way we imagined, our expectations will be blown to bits by His infinite goodness.

So, cheers to new adventures, everyone! Here we go!

What new adventures are you facing? I'd love to hear about your own endeavors!

Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love—but the greatest of these is love. {1 Corinthians 13:13}

Why is love the greatest? Because God IS love. (1 John 4:16) And of faith, hope and love, only love is everlasting.
Faith and hope are fulfilled in eternity.
Only Love is exactly "on earth as it is in Heaven". If Love is the greatest and Love never ends, let's make Love itself our top priority. .

A few times in recent months I've had this visceral thing happening that's really difficult to explain. The best way I can describe is like this: deep in my gut I experience the feeling of preaching with fire. It's intense & emotional. It's a forward movement of pouring out from deep within, almost like vomiting, but from my spirit, instead of my body.

The message is about the Father's great love & our true identity as His children. I can almost hear it breaking the chains of legalism & behavior-based justification. And it's somehow urgent.

I can't fully explain this feeling that has come over me several times recently because it's not natural. It's something in my spirit that only I can sense, I guess.
Around the same time this started happening, I was invited by a Kenyan ministry that partners with Winds of Grace (the church network I work with in Kenya) to lead a women's conference in a slum in Nairobi this April. Then! Krista Blalock, the co-founder of @flourishkenya asked me to help her facilitate a staff retreat & pilot a new family support program.
From the moment these opportunities were presented to me, I've said that I'm so willing & I feel God calling me in a different way than usual, but that I have no way to fund the trip & I'm trusting God to provide.
I've felt so strongly in my spirit that I'm not supposed to set up a support page or beg for donations. I'm just supposed to put it out there & believe that what God wills, God funds. To His glory alone!

If you're the one He wants to use to pour out provision on the $3,500 need, email info@flourishkenya.org and work it out with Krista. That's the simplest way to do it.
Yeah, so I'm posting this once in all the places and praising Him for the blessing while it's still on the way! I sense that it won't take long & that He's already set His provision in motion. He's such an abundant provider!
Thanks as always for praying for the ministry God continues to call me to in Kenya. Please keep me covered in the coming months because there is so much going on in my life, both professionally & personally. -T 📸 @sethsniderphotography
These are my two favorite pictures of me from recent years and they were both captured by Allison Graham.

She is my favorite photographer to shoot with because she sets me at ease, makes me laugh and captures who I am in a way no one else can.
Today, she's relaunching her business in her new home (which happens to be entirely too far away from me 😭) and I would love for y'all to check out @allisongrahamphoto and visit her incredible new website!

Sundays are for worship! It's time for us to gather together in awe of our holy God.

Go celebrate His love with your local church this morning! Attend a worship service with an open and expectant heart. He loves to meet with His people. Go and tell Him how you see Him. Even if that's messy, He can take it. All you have to do is show up.

Serve and worship the awe-inspiring God. Recognize his greatness and bow before him, trembling with reverence in his presence. {Psalms 2:11 TPT}

By the way did you see the verse of the day? “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. {Matthew 5:14‭-‬16 MSG}

Most of us are making a fresh commitment to nourishing or bodies with nutritious food this time of year.

You could also make a commitment to nourish or spirit by reading your Bible every single day. Open the pages with a desire for His presence and the expectation that He will speak to you. There is nothing that will impact your mood, relationships, movation, and understanding more than studying God's Word. It is an endless provider of revelation, encouragement, direction, and above all, HOPE! /// Start here:

Colossians 3:16 (CSB)  Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Tonight my friend Emily P. Freeman, co*founder of hope*writers, is hosting a live training for writers called “How to be a Working Writer Without Losing Your Mind.” Sometimes writers can get discouraged and begin to believe that there’s just no way forward in their writing without selling their soul or changing their personality or becoming a cartoon version of themselves.

If that's you, Emily wants to change that.She's a Wall Street Journal bestselling author who knows how to hustle but hasn't lost her heart. And good news! She loves talking to writers about writing.If you are a writer but you struggle to share your work in a way that feels like you, then you don't want to miss this free training.

But remember, it's tonight - follow the link in my bio to save your spot!
